Emmaniti Poem

02.24.2023

There nothing like an Emmaniti at full tilt
And as much as I give her credit
Or I give myself credit
So much of the credit is due
To all the dogs who came before
All the dogs who taught me
Time and time again
How much more I had to learn

It’s like a great big tree
All you see is what’s above the ground
Roots down below may be grand
But we do not see them

Those last dogs I had
The ones I rescued and the ones I bred
The ones I kept and the ones I passed on to another
The few who slipped through the cracks

With every step Emmaniti takes
She’s standing on the shoulder
Of invisible
Yet massive
Giants
